Belfast's best Halal spots

Belfast’s culinary scene has become exceptionally diverse in recent years. This not only means that there’s an increasing number of restaurants that offer dishes from all over the world but also that halal food is more accessible now. For those who don’t know what halal food is, it’s food permissible under Islamic law.

However, many people prefer it over alternatives regardless of their beliefs because it involves a preparation process that makes it healthier. For example, halal meat is free from preservatives and harmful bacteria as it’s drained from all the blood. Additionally, vegan food is also considered halal and we all could do with a bit more greens in our diet. If you want to go for a halal meal in Belfast, look no further. Here are our 5 top picks!

7 Spice
cuisinesHalal, Contemporary Indian

Why settle for an average? At 7 Spice you’ll be served a meal in a luxurious space that includes dining pods that can provide you with a truly unique dining experience. Make sure you book well in advance and you’ll get to enjoy that private sitting area perfect for a date or any other intimate gathering.

As for the food, the quality of dishes matches the high-end interior: on the menu, you’ll find a mix of Indian and Bangladeshi flavours. For example, one of the chef’s specials is chilli masala (meat/vegetables with fresh garlic, ginger chilli, coriander and red chilies) and we can confirm it’s one of the best we’ve tried. And of course, everything’s halal.

Even though Indian cuisine is one of the most popular ones in the UK, a good Indian restaurant isn’t that easy to come across. This is why Bengal Brasserie deserves a spot on this list; it offers you authentic food with an imaginative flair and halal quality as a bonus. Some of the finest positions on the menu include tandoori chicken, prawn methi mali and lamb Punjabi masala. The interior is spacious and modern which makes it suitable for any occasion but if you’d rather stay in, no worries. You can have the food delivered to your doorsteps and treat yourself after a long day.

Who doesn’t like pizza? You can never go wrong with this classic, especially when it’s halal and you can create your own perfect pizza with infinite toppings for no extra cost. To give you an idea of what you can expect, one of our personal favourites is the Cubano pizza with mojo sauce, mustard, prosciutto, pork belly, gherkins, dill and balsamic. But you can go for a combination of any sauce, veggies and meat you like and enjoy a perfectly halal comfort meal. The staff is welcoming of big groups and makes you feel like you’re part of the family so consider bringing your friends along with you for a little party.

Jumon is a popular bar restaurant that serves creative South Asian dishes. While it doesn’t openly promote itself as halal, the meals are plant-based so safe to consume for those who are Muslim or against animal cruelty. As their motto goes, you can’t control everything in life but you can control what you put in your body so why not try something delicious AND healthy? The menu isn’t extensive but the dishes have a lot of variety and flavour. We can promise you that their Pad Thai is to die for and you won’t be disappointed with the quality of other plates either. Stop by for a relaxing atmosphere and good vibes.
