London's unmissable BBQ restaurants
Who doesn’t love a BBQ? As soon as the weather brightens, Brits can’t wait to fire it up! Londoners are spoiled because when it comes to barbecued food, we don’t have to wait for the sun to come out. There are plenty of restaurants in the capital offering mouthwatering BBQ dishes, and we’ve prepared a guide that includes a variety of restaurants with one thing in common: delicious BBQ food and impeccable service.
If you’re looking for Turkish-influenced cuisine cooked authentically over glowing hot coals, then you should pop over to Pimlico where you’ll find sleek eatery Kazan. Here, you can dig into all sorts of meaty Mediterranean specialities, from traditional Adana koftes made from tongue-tingling red chillies blended with minced meat to Tavuk Izagara, which consists of marinated chicken thighs dressed with lemon. If you’re not much of a carnivore, then you can still experience this flavoursome and fiery cooking method by ordering the king prawns roasted with garlic or the chargrilled halloumi and mixed vegetable skewers.
For more international escapades, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Casa Malevo. On the menu, you’ll find traditional Argentinian dishes but with a modern twist; the restaurant knows how to move with the times and meet even the pickiest eater’s expectations. All ingredients are locally produced and make high quality dishes; on the BBQ menu, you can find sirloin steak, ribeye, fillet, beef burger, and many more. The interior is designed according to rustic trends and filled with pictures of Argentinian cowboys. If you need a little city escape and a culture lesson in one, Casa Malevo will make your evening unforgettable for sure.
Head chef and owner of London’s Cinder restaurants, Jake Finn cut his teeth in the likes of La Petite Maison, Coya and The Ritz, so you can expect something rather special here. He’s also passionate about cooking with flames and encourages diners to share each of his hearty dishes. Some of the grilled platters you can get stuck into include tender chicken thighs with confit lemon, chilli and garlic; succulent lamb loin chops with yoghurt, maple and sage; and juicy rib-eye steak with smoked bone marrow bordelaise sauce. We won’t blame you if your mouth is already watering…
Portobello 177 offers a contemporary, sharing style menu with a subtle nod to Caribbean and Japanese BBQ culture, made with quality ingredients and a focus on sustainability and seasonality. The menu is big on flavours that draw inspiration from historical culinary and cultural exchanges that have shaped the multicultural nature of modern British cuisine. This is innovative bbq food at its finest.
As one of Michelin starred chef Tom Kerridge’s culinary babies, The Butchers Tap & Grill on King’s Road in Chelsea pretty much revolves around its carnivorous offering. The gastropub prides itself on sourcing the freshest cuts of meat — ‘from the butcher’s counter straight on the grill’ — which are cooked however you like. Some offerings from The Meat Locker section of the menu include côte de boeuf, chateaubriand, pork tomahawk and Iberico pork chop. There are whole other sections of the menu dedicated to sauces and sides too, so you can really curate your own perfect plate.

Koreans love BBQs as much as we do here at Dish Cult, and Sagye is one of the best traditional Korean table BBQs you’ll find in London. Experience a real taste of Korea with some amazing ingredients you can BBQ yourself at your table. It’s fun and very tasty, what’s not to love?
A truly independent pub owned by Eimear Walsh and located in the heart of Winchmore Hill, The Winchmore Pub has a distinctively relaxed and friendly atmosphere, perfect for the entire family (dogs included!). The pub’s renowned for its Sunday roasts — but with an entire a la carte menu brimming with seasonal options, it’s by no means a one trick pony. Locals and visitors alike can’t speak highly enough of The Winchmore, and it’s easy to see why.
Ribs Thursday is what we’re here to talk about! Every Thursday at The Winchmore, work your way through a rack of BBQ ribs, sweet potato fries, and coleslaw for just £10! Add on a pint of your favourite draught and any one of The Winchmore’s classic desserts (we’re opting for sticky toffee pudding and the apple and berry crumble) for a perfect BBQ-heavy evening. Better yet, 1op from every main meal goes to a homeless charity to help with food, shelter, and support. What’s not to love?
The grills are fired up on Balham High Road too, where you’ll find Libano, a bright and welcoming family-owned Lebanese restaurant. Much of the menu is focused on sharing platters that are designed to be enjoyed by groups of families and friends; the dishes offer examples of traditional recipes, but with some modern tweaks. Highlights of the grill menu include lamb kafta, shish taouk, and lamb shish, as well as a Libano special chicken, which is a boneless baby chicken marinated with special spices.
