Where to go for Mother's Day in the UK
Where will you spoil your mum for Mother’s Day? Whether she’s adventurous and spicy or the queen of comfort, we’ve tracked down some of the best places across the UK for Mother’s Day this year. So if you’re not sure where to take mum or any leading lady in your life, here’s a Mother’s Day guide to help inspire you.
We love Blue Sakura in Leeds and we think mum will too. This place offers a unique ‘All You Can Eat’ concept of Japanese sushi and Asian-style grill. The aim is to introduce the public to the world of Japanese cuisines as affordable as possible, hence why the main concept here is the ‘All You Can Eat’ freshly prepared dining experience. With a fixed price and bite-sized dishes so you and mum can sample as many delicacies as you can stomach, this place is definitely not one to be missed.
Served with a beautiful tiered stand complete with seasonal delicious delicacies and pastries, homemade scones with Devonshire clotted cream, strawberry preserve and traditional finger sandwiches, the classic afternoon tea at Sopwell House is a treat not to be missed.
What could be more fitting for the Queen in your life than a castle? Located within the original courtyard of a Grade I listed castle, Hensol Castle Atrium is the perfect place to savour a delicious seasonal afternoon tea with locally sourced produce and the very best Welsh hospitality. The Atrium can accommodate groups of up to 12 guests if you want to gather all the family, and is steeped with natural light, opening out onto a large patio providing the option of al fresco dining if the weather’s nice.
The Tippling House is a subterranean late-night tavern in Aberdeen that serves boutique spirits, hand-crafted cocktails, fine Scottish ales and inspired casual dining. The dinner is varied, offering up lovely small plates, mid-size plates and pre-theatre dishes if you’ve got tickets to a show. There’s also a gorgeous brunch menu if you want to celebrate mum during the day.
Afternoon tea is a classic tradition for Mother’s Day and Roslin Beach Hotel in Southend-On-Sea is an ideal place for this. Occupying a grand seafront location in Thorpe Bay, the Roslin’s immaculately presented fine dining restaurant offers fresh local cuisine in relaxed, comfortable surroundings. Elegant and picture perfect, the Roslin also boasts a four silver star rating and one Rosette Award from the AA. Very special indeed.
Opened in 2016, The Old Flower Shop combines a beautiful and relaxed bar with a comfortable restaurant – perfect for an informal meal out with mum. Inspired by the best of the Big Apple, the main menu features classic favourites: from burgers fit for queens, fresh and tasty salads, signature sides and a meltingly good grill section. Did we mention their hand-stretched, stone-baked pizzas (all locally sourced and freshly made) are heavenly?
Freckled Angel is an award-winning British small plates restaurant with influences from Europe and Asia. Family-run with passion, this place offers the best quality food in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. It’s modern, effervescent and creative; if your mum’s all these things as well, then this one’s for her.
