Taking away the stress of choosing from an overwhelmingly large menu, set menus are the perfect way to enjoy a relaxing dining out experience. Thankfully, Belfast is home to a wide range of epic eateries that cater to all tastes and budgets. Read on to discover Dish Cult’s ultimate guide to the very best set menus in Belfast that you don’t want to miss…
Kicking off our list of set menus in Belfast is the fantastic Home Restaurant on Wellington Place. One of the city’s best-loved eateries, this Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant is known for offering Michelin-style food for a much more affordable price. Having operated in the city for over a decade, Home Restaurant has gained quite the reputation for its delicious and wholesome menu that makes the most of fresh, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients that combine to create fantastic dishes that are full of flavour.
Their Prix Fixe menu is available from Monday to Friday for lunch and between 5 pm and 6:15 pm and all day on Sundays. It offers amazing value with two courses for just £23.50 or three for £27.50. It also includes a great range of vegan and gluten-free options, so those with specific dietary requirements don’t need to worry about missing out on the delicious delights on offer. You can expect everything from a delicious pheasant and ham sausage roll or squash and red lentil broth to start followed by venison ragu or a spiced bean burger for main. Sweet tooth? No problem. Diners will have their pick of sticky toffee pudding, chocolate torte, or vegan sorbets for dessert.
Another Wellington Place favourite, The Lantern is a fantastic yet understated restaurant located at the heart of the city. Their fantastic pre-theatre set menu is the ultimate way to indulge in the incredible flavours they have on offer while still remaining within a budget. Available from Tuesday to Saturday between 4:30 pm and 6:15 pm, diners can indulge in two delicious courses for just £23.95 or three for £28.95. You can even add a glass of house wine for just £5.75.
Curious about what’s on offer? To start, you can choose from tasty options like their freshly prepared soup of the day served with warm wheaten bread, salt and chilli squid with Thai dressing, or a chargrilled chicken caesar salad with bacon and croutons. For mains, they offer tasty options like a 21 days dry-aged sirloin steak served with chunky chips, peppered sauce, and onion rings or a tasty sundried tomato, chilli, and spinach farfalle pasta. If you fancy some dessert, your sweet tooth will be more than satisfied with their homemade warm Armagh apple crumble or their fresh lemon posset with mixed berry compote and ice cream.
Located on the Upper Lisburn Road just south of the city centre, Millar’s Restaurant is, in our opinion, one of the most underrated eateries the city has to offer. Offering a relaxed yet elegant dining experience, this spot knows exactly what it’s doing when it comes to great food. From their pre-theatre menu, which is served on Wednesday and Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm and Friday and Saturday from 5 pm to 6 pm, diners can indulge in two delicious courses for just £19.
Starters include coriander and crispy peanut chicken with satay sauce, Asian salad, and roasted peanuts or a goat’s cheese frittata with pickled fennel, tarragon oil, and herb salad. For mains, you can choose from a succulent 8 oz sirloin steak with triple cooked chips, salad, and peppercorn sauce or pan roasted cod with sprout and spinach veloute, celeriac fondant, and buttered greens with a mulled wine gel. Desserts are just as delicious with everything from chocolate croissant bread and butter pudding with orange custard and orange ice cream to an indulgent salted caramel and white chocolate blondie served with white chocolate ice cream and caramel sauce. Plus, you can add a glass of house wine for just £6.50.
For a truly unique and memorable dining experience in the city, there’s nowhere we could recommend more highly than Academy Restaurant on the Ulster University Campus in the Cathedral Quarter. Offering the next generation of hospitality leaders the chance to work in a challenging, fast-paced restaurant environment, the menus here promote innovation and highlight the very best of fresh, local, and seasonal produce.
The set menu comes in at £42.50 inclusive and changes with the seasons depending on the availability of produce, so you can always expect something new, fresh, and delicious each and every time you visit. They offer two daily sittings; lunch between 12:30 and 14:30 and dinner between 17:00 and 20:30. Tables book up fast, so we advise booking early to avoid disappointment. One of our favourite things about this place is their transparency in their supplier base, working with fantastic local producers including Picked Organic, Carnbrooke Meats, Ewing’s Seafood, Jubilee Farm, Keenan Seafood, and many more.
Located at the heart of the city in the thriving Linen Quarter close to Belfast City Hall, Coco Restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxed evening meal in stunning surroundings. Their set pre-theatre menu is the perfect way to sample what they have on offer while also saving some money.
Available between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm from Wednesday to Friday and 5 pm to 6 pm on Saturdays, diners can enjoy a single main course for £16.50, two courses for £23, or three courses for £29.50. The flavours here are truly unrivalled with delicious dishes such as a roasted chestnut soup with morteau sausage, sage, and brown butter to start, a fragrant chicken tikka masala with coriander rice for main, and an indulgent chocolate nemesis pudding with honeycomb, hazelnuts, and vanilla ice cream for dessert. And that’s just a taster of what you can expect from their epic set menu!
