Where to dine out around the UK during Easter
Whether it’s the Easter holidays from school or the four-day Easter bank holiday, Easter usually means family time. And what better way to spend quality time with our loved ones than over a great meal out. Whether you’re looking for somewhere child-friendly, dog-friendly, vegan-friendly or even somewhere just for a few drinks, here’s the UK’s top dining choices for Easter this year.
El Prado by Martinez is a brasserie, offering the best selection of local meat and fish grilled over charcoal – perfect if the sun is shining over Bridgend, Wales. On offer is an extensive wine list showcasing the best of Spain, France and the New World. These wines are expertly paired with food freshly prepared by a team of highly skilled chefs spearheaded by Andrew Jones. All meats are cooked over the finest oak charcoal to give the best flavours. Meanwhile, the freshly displayed fish produce is supplied by a local fish monger. Over the past 40 years El Prado’s forged a strong working relationship with all local suppliers. As a family-run business, the restaurant prides itself on providing the best produce available.
Situated in the heart of beautiful Oban Bay, the Ee-usk shorefront location offers uninterrupted views across the water to the islands of Kerrera, Lismore, and beyond. With ferries, fishing boats, yachts and more, coming and going throughout the day, and wildlife such as dolphins, seals and otters swimming around the North Pier, there is always something to see from your table at Ee-Usk, making it an extra special dining destination for all the family this Easter. With lobsters and crabs caught from the rocky coast of Luing, scallops from Mull and langoustines, mussels, and oysters from the cold clear waters of Loch Linnhe, Ee-Usk shellfish is 100% locally sourced.
Looking to gather your mates for a pub lunch over the Easter bank holiday? We recommend The Maghera Inn. Located in County Down, Northern Ireland, the pub delivers a scrumptious lunch for foodies hunting the latest culinary trends. It’s also a pretty good date spot if you’re seeking some casual romance this Easter. The cocktail menu is top-notch, featuring modern twists on classic. We love the Caramel Espresso Martini! As for the food, there’s a selection of burgers and steaks, while the a la carte menu also boasts pan-roasted supreme of chicken, pan-fried hake fillet and a wild mushroom, spinach and pea risotto – to name a tasty few.
Turtle Bay has locations all across the UK, including this one in Leeds on Albion Street. The Caribbean inspired restaurant is bright and colourful, and should instantly capture your child’s imagination and attention. What’s more, there’s a dedicated Little Turtles menu and even a Little Turtles Brunch available until 3pm. The mini mains include cheeseburgers, chicken burgers and mac ‘n’ cheese. All meals are served with a free soft drink and will come with a free watermelon wedge as a healthy sweet treat at the end. There will also be tropical themed colouring in sets for them to keep them (and you) happy while they wait for their food.
Fancy Hank’s in York is great fun for all the family. Tucked away in the laid-back-streets of the historic Minster Quarter, the vibe here is good mood food. The inspiration comes from two brothers who travelled through the 11 states of America’s Deep South. For little ones, there’s a Little Hank’s menu, with a children’s main and dessert under £10, which is great value. Expect burgers (beef, chicken and veggie) and Beignets with a chocolate dip for pudding.
Seeking something a little upmarket for the Easter weekend, but that isn’t pretentious or too formal? Then we’ve got just the place. Harborne Kitchen in Birmingham is a modern British restaurant with a completely informal dining experience. Start off with a delicious cocktail or two in the bar, then move through to the relaxed restaurant for some eye-popping dishes. You could even take a seat at the chef’s table to fully experience the open kitchen for something truly memorable. The sample menu boasts experimental dishes such as chicken and white chocolate, and coffee with Jerusalem artichoke.
Nothing beats that first barbecue of the year, so why not pre-empt the summer with your mates at the Orange Bird in Sheffield. This neighbourhood restaurant in the heart of Hillsborough describes its food as modern South African / International – a bit of a mouthful, but we’re here for it and so should you be! Consistently cooking delicious food on a braai (BBQ) and serving great drinks along with it, this spot’s unmissable for a group outing.
Fjara can be found on Sea Road, Lerwick and has some pretty spectacular ocean views – perfect for a family day this Easter. Serving quality local produce and coffee for the parents as well beers and spirits, Fjara also has a dedicated children’s menu. The dinner menu offers Peerie haddock with skinny fries and beans, as well as Soup of the Day, and sausage, mash and gravy. Children under two eat free from this menu, too! There’s also breakfast and lunch menus for all the family if you wanted to eat earlier.
