Filipino Cuisine in Liverpool City Centre

As in most Asian countries, the staple food in the Philippines is rice. It is most often steamed and always served with meat, fish and vegetable dishes. Popular dishes include lechón (whole roasted pig), tapa (cured beef), adobo (vinegar and soy sauce-based stew ) and kaldereta (meat stewed in tomato sauce and liver paste). There are plenty of Filipino inspired restaurants in Liverpool, even if they aren’t traditional. If you love rice, meat and fresh flavours, this guide is for you.

Tiger Rock
cuisinesSouth East Asian

Tiger Rock is the perfect place if you want to try a bit of everything, as the menu includes an eclectic offering of East Asian cuisine, including a delicious mixture of Thai, Filipino, Chinese, Malaysian and Vietnamese small plates. Some standout dishes include the Nasi Goreng (chicken fried rice with fried eggs) and  their Kamping Chop (pork chop with mango salsa). The prices are very reasonable and there are two locations to choose from, Smithdown Road and North John Street in Liverpool City Centre. It’s so popular they needed two locations. Need we say more…

Yum Cha has earned its place on Lark Lane, an iconic strip of independent restaurant, bars and cafes in South Liverpool. They serve an extensive menu including Filipino inspired plates such as roast meats and rice bowls like their shredded beef or vegetable curry. Their big plates have the option of being served with rice or fries, fried rice and noodles and combine classic combinations of sweet and salty flavours. It’s always busy which is testimony to how amazing the food is!

This is real, authentic, delicious Asian-inspired food at its finest! One of our favourite restaurants on Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock, Rosa’s Thai Cafe includes dishes such as; the aromatic Beef Massaman Curry to the Soft Shell Crab Salad, Spring Rolls, homemade Sriracha Sauce and Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. All dishes are inspired from the founder, Saiphin Moore’s family favourites and her regular trips back home.

Chop Chop has been providing “home food” to customers since 2008. Located just off James Street, their central location is still a hidden gem amongst most tourists however, if you work in Liverpool, this is a very popular location for workers to enjoy their lunch break. Their delicious asian inspired dishes are perfect if you want something tasty and authentic.

For a traditional Filipino dish, we highly recommend their Prawn with Deopbap sauce, mayo, fried Kimchi, fresh veg over rice or their vegetable curry – a lightly spiced curry sauce stewed in mixed vegetables over rice.

Mamasan can only be found in Glasgow and Liverpool. So, be sure to make the most of this amazing restaurant and bar when you visit Liverpool One. Their food is inspired by the flavours of South-East Asia, but fresh and local is the name of the game at Mamasan as their dishes are elevated by the best of British produce.

Our top recommendation from this tasty menu is the Ichimi Crusted Carpaccio of Beef served with teriyaki onions, pickled shimeji mushroom and a wasabi emulsion. This one isn’t for the faint hearted! It packs a serious punch, and that’s not just because of the wasabi. They also have amazing rice dishes such as Sweet and Sour Pork Belly with sweet and sour onions, charred baby leeks and red pepper and pineapple ketchup, not to mention their side of mushroom and bone marrow fried rice.
