Out at Parramatta Park there’s a new restaurant with a dish we can’t stop thinking about…

It’s simple, it’s delicious and it magically evokes memories of perfect family breakfasts past. It’s the hotcakes at Misc. and we love it so much we named it Sydney’s must-try dish of the month.

Is that the full name?

It’s just “Hotcake” on the menu, but there are two of them and there’s a little more to it than that…

Where do you get it?

Misc., “Little Coogee” Bynes Ave, Parramatta Park NSW 2150

Why is it a winner?

A hotcake is a hotcake is a hotcake right? No, so very, very wrong. The hotcake at Misc. is a multi-sensory experience. Firstly, for the eyes, because these hotcakes are beautiful. Two perfectly round disks topped with a circle of berry butter and a quenelle of whipped ricotta generously flecked with vanilla bean, all coated in a subtle aniseed syrup. It looks like a work of art that is almost too pretty to eat (we said almost!). Then the smell – all warm and toasty – like putting on your favourite slippers after being caught in the rain. And finally there’s the taste and texture – tart, cold intense berry flavour against sweet, warm and fluffy – so very, very fluffy – hotcake, plus a hit of creaminess from the ricotta. Oh and the sound? That’s you while you eat it murmuring “yummmmmmm!”

Anything else to know?

Misc. is the brainchild of restaurateur and Gogglebox star Jad Nehmetallah. We sat down and had a chat with Jad about his new restaurant, and got his take on the best places to eat and drink around Sydney. There’s also a bonus video interview where he reveals the last meal he would eat if he knew he was about to die.
