A spotlight on Belfast's Gnostic

Tucked away in Belfast’s lively city centre, Gnostic is a cocktail bar & restaurant that’s quickly becoming one of the coolest spots in town. With its relaxed vibe, creative drinks, and carefully crafted dishes, it’s the kind of place you end up staying at longer than planned. Whether you’re catching up with friends, on a cosy date, or just want to relax after a long day, Gnostic offers something special that’s hard to resist.

From the moment you step into Gnostic, you’ll notice that it feels different from the usual bars. There’s a mystical, almost secretive feel to it, with subtle nods to the Gnostic theme in the form of geometric artwork, low lighting, and a modern, minimalist design that’s inviting without being over-the-top. The space is intimate but not cramped, with big windows letting in the glow of the city outside. It’s perfect for people-watching or just enjoying a quiet, moody corner.

The bar has a mix of seating, so whether you’re in a group, on a date, or flying solo, you’ll find a spot that fits. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, happy to guide you through the menu. They’re passionate about what they do, and it shows in their recommendations and how they make every drink feel like a personal tipple just for you.

Gnostic’s menu is full of shareable small plates that are ideal for a night of cocktails. The dishes are a mix of local ingredients with a creative twist.

One of our recent standouts include the salmon ceviche with pickled shallot, hot honey, avocado, and corn chips, as well as the honey mustard chicken taco with buffalo sauce and pickle onion, the pulled pork sliders with apple jam and red cabbage, and the confit duck leg ravioli with smoked duck breast and a pink peppercorn and pecorino custard – divine, and all of them pair perfectly with a drink in hand.

Vegetarians are well-looked after too, with the likes of their sweet potato massaman with wild rice, and a chickpea and coriander fritter, roast parsnip linguine with honey parsnip cream and rocket, and the egg fried wild rice with XO sauce.

Now, let’s talk cocktails – because this is where Gnostic really stands out. Their cocktail menu is a blend of classics with a twist and inventive drinks you won’t find anywhere else. Each one is crafted with care, and the bartenders are pros at mixing flavours that surprise you in the best way.

They take care of all your classic cocktail cravings – our favourites including their perfectly balanced pina colada, a London bramble, and a strong dark’n’stormy – as well as tackling bespoke cocktails. The Daily Tot is a standout; created as a homage to the nearby docks area, it blends Barbados rum, overproof rum, coconut rum, lime juice, and salted caramel.

And if you’re not drinking alcohol, Gnostic has some impressive mocktails that are just as exciting as their boozy counterparts, as well as all your favourite beers, wines, spirts, and non-alcoholic drinks available.

Gnostic is an experience in and of itself. The vibe is cool and a little mysterious, the food is spot-on, and the cocktails are some of the best you’ll find in the city. Whether you’re a cocktail lover or just looking for a great night out with good food and drinks, Gnostic is the kind of place that’ll have you coming back again and again.
