There’s nothing like perfectly steamed lobster in a soft bun with a tangy seafood sauce…

…And while there’s quite a few lobster rolls around Melbourne these days, you should head to Gem Pier in Williamstown to pick up our favourite catch of the day.

Is that the full name?

Yeap, there isn’t a menu, so just ask the smiling people on the bobbing barge at Gem Pier for a “Lobster roll”.

Where do you get it?

Gem Pier Seafood, 1 Syme St, Williamstown VIC 3016

Why is it a winner?

Williamstown’s Nelson Place is a picturesque place to be, but the food options can be, well, a little underwhelming. That’s when you should cross Commonwealth Reserve and step out onto Gem Pier where you’ll find a barge bobbing in the water with the freshest of seafood for sale. You’ll also find our favourite lobster roll in Melbourne. It’s Southern rock lobster, which has been gently steamed and then hand-picked, stuffed into a freshly-baked roll with crispy lettuce and topped with a deliciously tangy seafood sauce and just a crack of black pepper. You’ll pay much more for much less elsewhere, and we don’t think this lobster roll can be beaten. Try it and see!

Anything else to know?

Gem Pier Seafood is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 8am and 2pm. As well as sushi, cooked crays, and seafood platters, you’ll find a dizzying array of freshly-caught fish and seafood, so if you want to impress on the domestic front, ask for advice from the friendly and knowledgeable staff here – they’ll definitely point you in the right direction.
