A new Asian fusion dining experience is coming to Chapel Street in mid-November.

Wong Baby, from the team behind Botswana Butchery, is set to bring its own brand of Southeast Asian street food to new commercial tower Goldfields House at 627 Chapel Street.

In a slick and cool setting, you can expect the flavours you’d find in Bangkok’s night markets and Tokyo’s laneways.

Culinary Director Angel Fernandez, formerly of New York City’s Dante, has come up with a menu which includes everything from sticky chicken wings and Thai-style whole fish to curries, dumplings, bao, sushi and sashimi.

While baby by name, the restaurant is not baby by nature – it will be spread over two levels and seat 250 diners.

With neon lighting and high silver ceilings, Wong Baby sounds like the perfect restaurant for big groups and lots of fun, something fishbowl cocktails, beer towers and an extensive wine list will no doubt help fuel.

And with Chapel Street still reeling from the effects of lockdowns and even earthquakes, a fun dining destination could be exactly what the area needs.
