How to celebrate Oktoberfest in Manchester

Starting in October 1810 as a celebration of the marriage between King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen in Germany, Oktoberfest is undoubtedly the largest beer festival in the world. When it comes to marking the occasion in Manchester, this city’s not shy of amazing places to eat and drink. Here’s our guide to celebrating Oktoberfest in Manchester.

When it comes to Oktoberfest, Bundobust goes above and beyond, combining the best of Indian and Bavarian cuisine. For the past five or six years, Bundobust has celebrated Oktoberfest, and hopefully it will do the same this year. Last year these guys served up currywürst and purple potatoes, prost pickles, as well as pretzels with extra spice! In recent years, it’s even brewed its own Oktoberfest-style beer, plus Riesling pairings, which will make you feel like you’re in the middle of Munich. Keep an eye for the celebrations this year, and make sure to book in advance.

The perfect way to celebrate Oktoberfest is by enjoying a cold German beer in the comfort of the victorian-style Bay Horse Tavern. Located in the heart of the city, this historic pub serves up a fantastic selection of German beers like Schöfferhofer, Erdinger, and refreshing Helles. If you’re feeling peckish, you should try the beef dripping triple cooked chips, one of the delicious pies or a mouthwatering burger. It also has an excellent brunch menu, so you can start your Oktoberfest celebrations early after a classic full English, which comes with bottomless builder’s tea or coffee, but you can always opt for a beer instead.
