When it’s warm outside there’s nothing better than a spot of al fresco dining, so we thought it only right to create a guide of our favourite London outdoor eateries. From stunning Italian to understated Chelsea noodle bars and epic burgers, there is something for everyone right here.
A gorgeous venue in Covent Garden, but found slightly tucked away in Slingsby Place, Dalla Terra is perfect if you are hoping to avoid a manic tourist season whilst finding yourself in the centre of town. Visit for a fantastic selection of wines and Italian plates, as well as killer desserts of cheesecake and tiramisu. The service here is brilliant, with a team that is well informed on the wine on offer. A great venue for a romantic dinner, or perhaps to idle a sunny afternoon away with Aperol Spritz and olives.
What could be better than al fresco dining? A spot beside the water, of course! In London, that usually means by the Thames, but for an even more picturesque meal, you could head to the Grand Union Canal where you’ll find Darcie & May Green, the canal-boat-turned-restaurant. With an exterior painted by Peter Blake, it’s hard to miss! This Australian-inspired eatery offers food and drinks all day, including a bottomless brunch and low-intervention wines. Nab a table on the open-air terrace and people-watch those strolling by or cruising down the canal.
This lovely, welcoming spot in Clapham features a terrace from which you can watch the comings and goings of the sprawling common. The menu offers seasonal dishes, from breakfast all the way through to dinner, so you can really make the most of the longer, brighter days of summer. There are sharing platters that are brilliant for groups, as well as a generous cocktail menu, so you can really get the party started if you wish before heading out to enjoy Clapham’s bustling bar scene!
You’ll find this restaurant right beside Greenwich Park and Blackheath, an area which makes for a fantastic day out when the sun is beaming. At this neighbourhood Argentinian eatery, you can sit outside and soak up the atmosphere of the village. The menu features traditional delicacies including empanadas and plenty of meat (all Argentinian, of course), which can be selected based on your favourite cut or within generous mixed grills. Just make sure you come hungry!
Exmouth Market is a cracking spot in Angel, with bakeries, Greek coffee shops, independent gift boutiques – not to mention Marby & Elm (if you don’t know, check them out on Instagram). However, we love Black Bear Burger here, with its outdoor, street-style bench seating and epic burgers. With insanely good one-off specials and wild side dishes (Rarebit Crumpet or Black Bone Ramen anyone?), it is easy to become a regular here thanks to its ever changing exciting menu, alongside some absolute classics. We also can’t forget to mention the free soft serve ice cream at the end of your meal!
Riverside East is a cafe, restaurant, street food yard and roof top terrace all in one, serving up seasonal dishes from local suppliers, alongside craft beer, cocktails, freshly ground coffee, sweet treats and some of the best street food around. Nestled in the heart of the Olympic Park, sitting next to the river, here you’ll discover unparalleled skyline views of East London. Perfect for the summer.
Troubadour is London’s most vibrant and intimate late night pub with a secret garden… Established in 1954, it’s one of the last standing, historic, independent, grass roots live music venues in London. Book into the cafe during the day or the restaurant in the evening for your meal. This is Earl’s Court’s secret gem that’s open until 2am Thursday, Friday and Saturday for all you late night revellers this summer!
