Winter venues in Liverpool
We all could use a dose of hearty comfort food on a cold winter’s day. Does the thought of warm soup with buttery, rustic bread spring to mind? Or maybe the thought of a rich, luxurious hot chocolate as you walk around Liverpool’s famous Albert Dock? Well, if your mouth is watering at the thought, look no further than this guide to Liverpool’s best places to indulge this winter.
If you’re looking for a special wintery treat, look no further than The Art School. This restaurant is a melting pot for hearty, rich flavours and the finest produce in Liverpool. One of its seasonal specials includes loin and belly of rare breed Cumbrian Mangalitza pork with celeriac puree, chanterelles, pork fat carrots with cumin charred pointed cabbage and calvados jus. If that, coupled with a glass of red wine from the extensively stocked cellar doesn’t scream winter comfort, we don’t know what will.
Manifest opened its doors in early 2022 and has already been awarded two rosettes for culinary excellence from AA rated trips! Despite its culinary excellence, Manifest is an informal dining experience with the chefs often checking back on their dishes and talking guests through the menu.
Manifest’s food and passion for produce take centre stage. The team makes everything possible in-house from the best ingredients following the flow of the seasons. Expect homemade bread, oils, house charcuterie, preserves, pickles, ferments and brews!
Currently, on the seasonal menu, you will find roast venison loin served with pickled blackberry and kale, and a nod to Manifest’s heritage – a Liverpool Bay seabass served with parsnip, cavil nero, and king oyster mushroom with a Bordelaise. Both dishes are guaranteed winter warmers!
Belzan is special because its menu changes with the seasons. Some weeks nothing changes, other weeks three or four dishes might change, which makes this a very exciting restaurant to visit all year round.
Everything is made fresh and by hand! The wine menu is also carefully chosen based on Belzan’s ethos of serving nourishing food and drinks that are good for the planet and pair amazingly with seasonal dishes. Belzan is a quaint restaurant, so we highly recommend booking so you don’t miss out on the latest menu!
The Italian Club Fish is a staple of Bold Street. Launched after the success of its sister restaurant, The Italian Club, this is a relaxed and authentic venue with fantastic quality food and a cosy, family-run atmosphere, making it the perfect spot to enjoy good food and good company.
As a Fish Cafe, many of the ingredients are subject to availability and all the dishes are prepared fresh, so it may take a little longer for your mains but will be worth the wait! So why not indulge in a selection of delicious starters or work your way through the wine menu?
This is the ideal spot if you’re looking for a delicious meal and maybe party the night away afterwards on Liverpool’s iconic Bold Street and Concert Square.
Vetch is a vibrant fine dining restaurant in the heart of Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter. Head Chef and Co-Owner Daniel McGeorge has a long history of award-winning achievements. You may know his name after he won The Great British Menu in 2021 and the Craft Guild of Chefs Restaurant Chef Award in 2022. Daniel is now back home in Liverpool and has opened the doors to Vetch. When he’s not whipping up a tasty menu in the kitchen, he’s foraging for wild ingredients, so you can be sure to receive the most fresh and seasonal food Liverpool has to offer! We highly recommend booking a table here as McGeorge’s reputation has crowds flocking in, especially in the build up to Christmas.
Disclaimer – do not go here if you’re afraid of heights! Panoramic 34 is Britain’s tallest restaurant, located on the 34th floor of Liverpool’s West Tower. Panoramic 34 offers 360-degree views of Liverpool and the Welsh hills, and on a clear day, you can even see across to Manchester but even with the dark winter nights, the lights of Liverpool shine brightly making it a really magical place to visit in the darker months.
The talented bartenders can make your chosen cocktail choices upon request even if they aren’t on the menu, and the food quality is fantastic, whether you are sat at the bar having nibbles or sat in the main restaurant treating yourself to a three course meal.
If you’re looking for love, you will probably find it at the bottom of one of the AMAZING wines, but you may also find it after tasting the winter menu at City Wine Bar and Kitchen. This place offers a cosy, relaxed atmosphere and friendly service, which makes it a great hangout spot to sit, sip wine and put the world to right! It serves warming main meals like traditional Liverpudlian Scouse, (if you’re not from Liverpool this is a winter must-try!) alongside fish and chips as well as lighter bites, sandwiches and burgers.
Located on Falkner Street, The Quarter is a family-run and family-owned business so naturally, it’s the perfect location for a family meal in the lead up to Christmas. Found near the Anglican Cathedral, The Quarter is in a beautiful location and is always amazingly decorated in the lead-up to Christmas. The menu caters to everyone, including mini versions of the best sellers on the children’s menu. Although the menu doesn’t change much, it does have amazing seasonal specials bringing heart-warming new additions, so keep your eyes peeled!
Queen by name and queen by nature, this beautiful little bistro is nestled down the secretive Queens Arcade. The decor is minimalist with rustic chairs and tables, and classic French artwork on the walls offer a truly authentic Parisian cafe experience. Queens prides itself on offering seasonal produce, which is carefully prepared and cooked alongside a broad wine list. The main menu is served Monday to Friday 12pm to 9pm and Saturday 2pm to 9.30pm so we highly recommend going to Queens after a long Friday to sit and enjoy a glass (or two) of red and enjoy meals such as whole roast plaice with sea herb sauce or glazed pork belly, apple and fennel, dill emulsion and jus. If that doesn’t scream winter decadence, we don’t know what will!
