Opened by Chef Roberta Hall-McCarron, the same mastermind behind the much-loved The Little Chartroom and Ardfern, Eleanore offers a more personal and experimental take on modern dining. Named after Roberta’s grandmother, the restaurant’s whole concept feels rooted in a mix of tradition and fresh ideas. And, with space for around only 20 diners at a time, the atmosphere is intimate without being too formal — just the right mix of cosy and sophisticated.

Stepping into Eleanore, you’re welcomed by a minimalist but stylish, monochrome space, with an open kitchen that lets you peek at the chefs in action. It feels personal, like you’re invited into a private culinary performance. There’s no pressure to whisper, though – the vibe is relaxed, perfect for both a special night out or a casual midweek treat.

What really sets Eleanore apart is the way they approach their menu. It changes regularly based on what’s in season, so every visit is a new adventure. They’re all about working with local Scottish suppliers, which means you’re tasting the best of what’s fresh at the moment. Recent highlights on the menu have included dishes like raw scallop with daikon, smoked kipper dashi, and furikake, or a standout beef flat iron alongside lobster poached in spiced butter, a sauce made from red peppers, and roasted kombu for a seriously bold and unique flavour. The dishes are creative, but never complicated to the point of losing the real essence of the ingredients.

They also have great options if you’re not into meat. or seafood. Vegetarian dishes like their barbecued hen of the woods fungi with shiitake bordelaise & celeriac
or agnolotti with cep, pine nut, and spenwood show just how much love they put into each plate, no matter what you order. And with the small dining room, everything feels incredibly personal – like they’re making these plates just for you.

Despite being a newer addition to Edinburgh’s food scene, Eleanore has quickly become a standout, carving out its own niche as a place where food lovers can experience something genuinely exciting. While its sister restaurants The Little Chartroom and Ardfern are already a local favourite, Eleanore offers something a bit more daring and unexpected. It’s the kind of place where you can tell the chef and team are having fun experimenting with flavours and techniques, but they never lose sight of making food that’s just plain delicious.

The personal touches that Roberta Hall-McCarron has infused into Eleanore really shine. Named after her grandmother, the restaurant has a familial warmth that goes beyond just the food. It’s a place that feels connected to the local community –whether it’s through supporting Scottish farmers and fishermen, or just creating a space where people can come together to enjoy a great meal.

A must-try for locals and anyone passing through the city, Eleanore is your always-reliable spot. You’ll find them at 30-31 Albert Place, Edinburgh EH7 5HN. Book your table right here on Dish Cult.
