Top places for eating Italian in Chelsea

We have shown you around Chelsea before, but have we toured you around the best local Italian restaurants? No, and that’s not okay, so we’re fixing that pronto. Living in the UK, we often find ourselves craving comfort food and hearty meals, and what could be better than having them cooked by the best chefs in London’s most floral neighbourhood. And what’s cosier than a rich tomato pasta or a melting-cheesy pizza? Exactly. Here is our guide to the best Italian restaurants in Chelsea.

We’re setting the bar high with this first venue and it’s well worth it. Frantoio can be found in the heart of Chelsea, at the famously busy, sophisticated and all-encompassing King’s Road. Framed by brick walls to offer a homely comfort, and white tablecloths to test your tomato sauce skills, this is the perfect place to indulge in Italian signature flavours without having to hop on a flight to Sicily. The chef’s recommendations on the menu are for those with adventurous taste buds that nod at the thought of spaghetti or fettuccini with different selections of seafood, a warming ravioli and veal, or the classical risotto. For the protein experts, Frantoio presents a gourmet list of grilled meat and fish, including sea bass, salmon, and veal Milanese. Nibble on some burrata pugliese with pomodorini and sip on a lychee martini as you wait and close off the meal with a sweet treat to elevate your experience.

Still on the King’s Road but surprising its guests with a heated and covered roof terrace, Made In Italy brings all the heartwarming feels of a family-run business for the pizza-lovers in Chelsea. This is the perfect place to visit with friends and family, especially the ones with dietary requirements, as customers can choose their pizza base and cheese. Yes, this means gluten-free and vegan included (hooray!). Try one of the tasty deals, including Monday-Thursday special lunch combos or, our personal favourite, the bottomless pizza Monday with unlimited pizza and one drink per person for just £24.95. The roof terrace menu includes some exclusive starters such as the Polpette della nonna, beef meatballs in rich classic tomato sauce, and Baked Caciocavallo cheese served with tangy orange jam. The main menu features a stellar collection of truffle tastes, a burrata corner, fresh pastas, and the unmissable ‘grand finale’ with handmade desserts honouring the sweetest side of Italy. Don’t overlook the wine list as it champions some of the best bottles of Tuscany and Puglia – the rustic Montepulciano, a classic Chianti, and the full-bodied Primitivo Riserva. Salute!

Selection of desserts

A change of scenery as we move on to Brompton Road, MY&SANNE takes on a slightly different approach to its menu and presentation, with Instagram-worthy desserts, casual-chic décor, and Mediterranean aromas that mix the best of Italian, Asian and Greek cuisines. Ideal for brunch, dinner, and Londoners who appreciate a challenge, this is where you’ll find a Tiramisu French toast with mascarpone cream, Nutella, hazelnuts and coffee, some Potato Gnocchi with ‘Nduja Bolognese topped with 24-months-aged parmesan, and a Vegan Pistachio Pesto Trofie Alla Genovese with the optional addition of burrata paired with a red 2012 Barbaresco Albesani. Sharing the meal with someone who prefers the traditional palates of England? That works just fine. Choose from the classic Fish & Chips, a full English breakfast, and the one and only Black Angus Burger with cheddar cheese and crispy French fries. Just make sure you and your party save room for the elegant and indulgent desserts, whether that’s the ricotta cheesecake with a layer of juicy raspberries, or the layered dulce walnut honey cake. You’re welcome.

It all started with a fun challenge on Facebook: inviting real Italian mammas to fly to London and cook their favourite homemade recipes in a professional kitchen. And lucky for us, La Mia Mamma now has three locations across West London, including two right in Chelsea. So, whether you’re exploring the trendy King’s Road or wandering down the quieter Hollywood Road, your cravings for fresh, authentic pasta are well taken care of.

At the Hollywood Road location, you’ll find the same welcoming vibe and heartfelt Italian cooking. This spot has a cosy, intimate atmosphere, making it the perfect place to escape the busier streets of Chelsea. Just like the other locations, the menu changes regularly, depending on which mamma is in charge. Every few months, a new mamma arrives, bringing with her the flavours of a different region of Italy. You might find yourself savouring a rich Roman ragu or a light, fragrant dish from the Amalfi Coast – it’s always a surprise!
