Bulrush

This Bristol institution has just gained its first Michelin Star, which means you know it’s going to be good. We’d recommend if you’re pushing the boat out that you head straight for the tasting menu. Choose from eight or nine courses, depending on the day of the week, and enjoy dishes like bbq trout with red cabbage gazpacho, and horseradish, or heritage tomato, sheep’s milk ice cream, and nettle. It’s a tiny spot with just a few tables, so you get to get all up and close and personal with your date.

Adelina Yard

Is there a better way to bring the romance than to sit eating dinner overlooking Welsh Back? We don’t think so. So head down to Adeline Yard, an acclaimed restaurant run by two hospitality veterans. This bright and airy space and eat their incredible food that includes dishes like Orkney scallop with English peas, cured sea bream, and game consomme with autumn vegetables, truffle, and steamed brioche. Make sure you round it off with one of their desserts, dishes that they’re famous for perfecting.

Pasta Loco

No one knows more about romance than the Italians (except maybe the French). Which is why we’ve brought you to Pasta Loco, an upmarket Italian restaurant that’s getting rave reviews. Except you won’t find much in the way of overcooked pasta here. These guys serve up food like gnocchi with cavolo nero and courgette, orzo risotto, and mussels in steamed sherry. They make their own pasta daily, and even have gluten-free versions if you or your date has specific food needs. So, head down, order the pappardelle, and make like Lady and the Tramp!

The Ethicurean

What’s more romantic than looking after the planet so we can all continue to love a little longer? Nada. Which is why, next on our list of romantic restaurants in Bristol is The Ethicurean. Sure, you need to travel a little out of the city to get here, but we’re sure you’ll like the extra time together. Focusing on local produce, and growing much of their own ingredients in their walled garden, you know that whatever you eat will be the freshest it can be. Taste dishes like Cornish plaice and mussels, or classic Welsh rarebit gert salad with their own ferments, and wash it down with a scrumpy that’s made from their own apples.
