Highly Recommended: The Pie Piper on Karangahape Road

A sweet treat after dinner never goes amiss, and we put it to you to determine the best spot for that dessert you’d simply die for. Duck Island Ice Cream came out supreme, to no one’s surprise if they’ve seen the consistent line down Ponsonby Road.

The handcrafted ice cream company started churning back in the Waikato in 2015, and brought their beloved creations up to Auckland in 2019, settling very well into their Ponsonby Road ice creamery.

With more than 25 artisanal flavours, excluding an extensive range of dairy-free and gluten-free ice creams, there’s a scoop for everyone.

Bending the rules of what an ice cream flavour can be, Duck Island is known for their more adventurous flavours such as their Black Sticky Rice or Roasted White Chocolate Miso, as well as their more fun flavours like Lolly Cake and Fairy Bread.

“There’s literally nothing I don’t like about Duck Island,” says Cult Icon Award judge Joyce Lau of Food Review NZ.

“I’m a huge fan of their boysenberry cheesecake and pecan butterscotch as they’re both unique and iconic flavours with delicious nutty and chewy textures.”

There are a lot of features that draw guests into the cute storefront. Besides the sweet pastel colour palette, Duck Island really does cater to the masses. From fruity sorbets and more subtle flavours to outlandishly exciting ice creams and seasonal limited edition picks too.

Head in for a bowl, a cone, a milkshake, an ice cream sandwich or a take-home pint and end your night happy.
