These cafés/restaurants combine New Zealand’s love of both dessert and pies in glorious ways.

Here’s where to find the best slices to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Circus Circus
cuisinesModern New Zealand

Circus Circus is an extravagant dining experience that has graced Mount Eden village for many years. The café/restaurant made a name for itself with both its divine dishes and its quirky décor. It quickly became a sweet-tooths favourite haunt with its vast variety of desserts served all day long. Currently their menu sports the traditional banoffee pie. The soft biscuit crust paired with a thick layer of caramel and bananas has always been a kiwi classic. The fresh cream on top breaks up the sweet flavours and pulls all the components of the dessert together perfectly. If banoffee pie isn’t your thing then Circus Circus also does a pie of the day served with ice cream.

Winner Winner
cuisinesAmerican

While Winner Winner is well known for their mouth-watering fried chicken, they’re also making big strides with their dessert options. Their dessert pies are freshly made every day and served by the slice. Starting with their vegan peanut butter pie, made using the famous Fix and Fogg peanut butter for a crunchy, rich texture. Winner Winner also have the Pinky Pie, homemade pink chocolate caramel. All of their desserts are out of this world but it’s the S’mores brownie pie that we dream about every night. Pairing pie with brownie is a match made in heaven. This decadent gooey chocolate treat has a layer of torched meringue and shaved chocolate on top.

The Pie Piper
cuisinesDessert, American

The Pie Piper has made a company out of New Zealand’s shared love of sweet pies. Currently they are only serving two by the slice and the rest fully sized pies – we’re not complaining. The first slice you can try is the bourbon pecan pie with a flaky crust that melts in your mouth. Then comes the punchy flavour of buttery pecan nuts and a hint of Wild Turkey bourbon. The second option is the banoffee cream deep-dish pie. This dessert takes inspiration from the American banana cream pie. Except t’s a bigger, better version. Double the amount of caramel, even more whipped cream and bananas as well as a drizzle of salted caramel sauce on top. Other flavours (full sized) are blueberry, apple, key lime and a delectable coconut cream pie.

Peach's Hot Chicken
cuisinesAmerican

Peach’s Hot Chicken annihilates all of our expectations when it comes to their Belgian chicken waffles, but we always make sure to leave space for dessert. They have created a dessert that’s hard to beat with their peanut butter mousse pie. Pairing the crunchy texture of peanut butter with the fluffy mousse and buttery pie crust makes for an indulgent dessert you’ll never forget. Taking flavours and inspiration from their origins in Nashville Tennessee, Peach’s Hot Chicken uses family recipes passed down the generations to make their stand-out dishes.

Federal Delicatessen
cuisinesAmerican

The Fed boasts a traditional American diner styled menu with a lot of stand-out dishes like the gumbo but it’s their cabinet desserts we’re interested in. With three pie options available there’s bound to be something for everyone. You can also choose to have the-three-way dessert which allows you to get a little bit of every pie, like the classic tangy lemon meringue pie. Just like your mum used to make it, with a tart and smooth filling and a fluffy layer of meringue on top. Or go for the sweeter option and try the banana and toffee pie served with caramel popcorn. And last but not least there’s Sarah’s pecan pie served with vanilla mascarpone cream.
